Restore Your Smile

Have you lost a tooth or teeth due to decay or trauma? Are you self-conscious about your smile?

Dr. Nancy J. Magone, DMD and her team, located in Woodbine, MD, are committed to helping patients achieve healthy smiles they love. She offers dental implant treatments for patients who have missing teeth to help them restore the function and appearance of their smiles.

Dental implants help restore the appearance, strength, and function of your smile. Unlike dentures, they are permanently cemented in the smile. Unlike bridges, they don’t require preparation of the surrounding teeth. Dental implants allow you to take back your smile and feel confident in your grin.

A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically inserted into the gums where the tooth’s root used to be. The post will serve as the root of the artificial tooth. After placement, the post is given a couple of months to heal and meld to the jaw bone, creating a secure, stable foundation for the rest of the artificial tooth. After the abutment and crown are placed, the dental implant will look, feel, and function like a natural tooth.

There are several risks to leaving a gap in the smile. For example, the rest of the teeth may shift around the gap, causing misalignments. The gums where the tooth used to be are especially vulnerable to gum disease. A missing tooth can also create jaw bone deterioration, as well as a sunken appearance in the face. But perhaps the most obvious effects of a missing tooth are the difficulties with speaking and chewing it may cause, as well as the impact on the aesthetics of your smile.

Dental implants are ideal for patients who have healthy, sufficient jaw bone and who don’t smoke. Dr. Magone can work with you to determine if dental implants are right for you and can discuss your options with you.
